Tom Plant's Prezi presentation 'Ash Wednesday'

PREZI SLIDE 1
The Gathering

In the name of the Father,
and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.

The Greeting

The Lord be with you
And also with you

Introduction
For a very long time, Christians have joined together during Lent to prepare themselves for the coming season of Easter where we think about the time when Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead.

During Lent Christians think deeply about saying sorry to God for all the wrong things they might have done or said or thought. It is a time to take to heart God’s forgiveness for the things we have done wrong and grow in our faith.

I invite all of you to follow this preparation for Easter through the time we now call Lent. By thinking about ourselves, our faith in God, by turning from those things we do which are wrong and by reading and reflecting on God’s Holy Word.

PREZI SLIDE 2+3
Modified collect for Ash Wednesday

Almighty and everlasting God,
you hate nothing that you have made
and forgive the sins of all those who are sorry:
create and make in us new hearts
that we, who want to say sorry
and admit our wrongdoings,
may receive from you, the God of all mercy,
perfect forgiveness ;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.

PREZI SLIDE 4

Video-led liturgy of repentance
PREZI SLIDE 5

Explain that we are now going to watch a video and say sorry, repeating the words (sung):
Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

Pause the presentation at each sin and have a child put the piece of paper representing each into the burning bin.
PREZI SLIDE 6

Father eternal, giver of light and grace,
we have sinned against you and against our neighbour,
in what we have thought,
in what we have said and done,
through ignorance, through weakness,
through our own deliberate fault.
We have wounded your love,
and marred your image in us.
We say sorry for all our sins.
With the light of your Son Jesus Christ,
who died for us,
burn our sins [here set light to the sin bin]
and lead us out from darkness
to walk as children of light. Amen

The Imposition of Ashes
PREZI SLIDE 7

Dear friends in Christ,
I invite you to receive the sign of the cross made with these ashes. This shall be a sign of us keeping the season of Lent.

Pray over the ashes:

God our Father,
you create us from the dust of the earth:
grant that these ashes may be for us
a sign of our sorrow
and a symbol of our mortality;
for it is by your grace alone
that we receive eternal life
in Jesus Christ our Saviour.
Amen.

Please come forward to receive the sign of the cross on your forehead with the ashes.

[Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return]

After everyone has received the ashes:

PREZI SLIDE 8

Let us pray.
Lord, we know that you love us and forgive us,
and so we sing to thank you for your love:

TAIZE CHANT: LAUDATE DOMINUM

Blessing
Christ give you grace to grow in holiness,
to deny yourselves, take up your cross, and follow him;
and the blessing of God almighty,
the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
be among you and remain with you always.
